Well, I think that I have been quoted as saying "I will get a dog, when pigs fly". I am not sure what happened to make me give in, but I finally did. I have been the only one in our house opposed to getting a dog for years. The kids have been wanting one for so long. I finally gave in...and we have the cutest little puppy. He is a West Highland Terrier. His name is BARKLEE. We have had him for a month already and he has been such a sweet little guy. The kids are loving having him. Even I have fallen for the little guy. Wonders never cease!

Here are a few of the things that we have been up to during the Summer of 2009.

We started working with the girls to get them up on the wakeboard this year. They did pretty good for their first time.

We finally got our shed built. My dad came down and we managed to get it up and built in just over a week. My dad left with a fractured rib...but other than that, all went well. Thanks Dad, we couldn't have done it without you. You are the best!!

Abby performed at Wines Park in Lehi for the Lehi Round Up days. She performed 4 songs that she played and sang to. She did a super job!

This swimming pool was MISSING for the first month of the summer...but

we finally found it and we have been having a blast in it...it has been a super hot August! This is Katie and Steve diving into the pool..Katie LOVES the water.

Kloee turned 11 and had a little party a couple of days before school started. She really disliked having her birthday on the first day of school.

Okay, I had to post this. Look at all of these groceries that I got and with coupons and some in store deals, I only paid $13.10...CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??! I was so amazed. I LOVE COUPONS!!

We had an end of the summer picnic with some of the kids friends and with their favorite preschool teacher Ms. Tina. She is so awesome!! As you can tell from this picture...the pose was her idea...she is so much fun!

Max turned 8 last week and had a fun party with family and friends.

Today was a very special day for Max. He was able to be baptized.

So many of our family members were able to make it for his special day.

Aunt Tiffany and her kids were able to come from Arizona and Grandma and Grandpa Russell came all the way from Canada.

Thank you to everyone that came. It was so great to have everyone together.

Goodbye to Tina's Tots Preschool

Katie had her preschool graduation tonight. She was so excited for her little program and did a great job on her songs. They did the Pledge of Allegiance in sign language. It was so cute.

We are so sad to say goodbye to Tina's Tots. All 4 of the kids went to this same preschool. It has been so wonderful. Tina has been the most amazing teacher and so much fun! There isn't a day that goes by that Katie doesn't tell me something that Ms. Tina taught her or something that she says.

This is an end of an era...but we are leaving with some fabulous memories.

Thanks Ms. Tina for the past 8 years of teaching our kids their ABC's and sooo much more!!

Abby has been wanting to get her hair cut for awhile. We finally went and got it done...we were surprised to find out that she had cut enough off the length to donate her hair. We are sending it in to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

Dancing and Camping

I know, I know, it has been a couple of months since I have blogged...well more like 6 months. But who is really counting?

This past weekend Katie had her first dance recital. She had two dances and did a fabulous job.

The dance recital landed on the same night as our ward father and son camp out.
So Max and Daddy had to improvise and they set up the tent in the back yard, bought a load of treats and picked up a movie at Redbox and watched it on the laptop. They stayed up way too late, but had alot of fun.

What happened to November??

Every four years when leap year roles around, I always wonder who the heck thought up leap year??? Why do we need an extra day every four years in February? Never really understood.....but seriously, when did someone decide that there wasn't going to be a November in the year 2008?? The last thing I remember was going trick or treating October 31st and now I am getting ready for Christmas..what is with that?? Needless to say, life has been a little crazy around here.

My sweet Uncle David passed away on November 21st and we were able to go up to Calgary for the funeral. It was so nice to be around my wonderful family. There were cousins that I hadn't seen for years. This picture shows "the Russell clan" with the exception of 5 cousins that were not able to attend. That was so amazing. I can't remember the last time we were all together. I was so sad to have it all end. I love my family!

It snowed one day while were up at my mom and dads. Grandpa took the kids across the street to go sledding and build snowmen. We didn't bring any snow playing clothes for them...so they mix and matched what they could of Grandmas and went out and played. They had a blast!! Great memories. It was unseasonably warm while we were there with the exception of this one day. Perfect weather for our unplanned trip up. We were truly blessed to have the weather we did. It made us feel alot safer with all the traveling we did while we were up there.

Home sweet home! This is the field across from my parents home...isn't it gorgeous!! I love the windmills.

Visiting with Cameron and Joanna and their new little one Konnor William. He is such a sweetie! It was nice to visit them and enjoy their beautiful newly finished basement. You did a great job Cam!

My dad finally bought himself a new recliner while we were up there. He is always falling asleep in this old wooden rocking chair that is in their TV room. I am thinking that this is going to be ALOT more comfy for him. Sit back Dad and relax...you deserve it!!

I love this age...Katie thinks everything is so "magical".

Daddy changes the light bulbs in the garage...Katie says, "daddy is so magical".

The book she likes to read has lift the flaps...Katie says, "that book is so magical".

Our van has automatic sliding doors...Katie says, "our van is so magical".

Why can't they stay 4 years old FOREVER!! I wish I could live in her world for just one day.

At school they are having a World History Assembly in place of any Halloween celebrations. So for this each of the children that wanted to participate needed to do a report on someone in history and then dress up as that person.
None of my kids really spoke up and said that they were interested in doing this. Max mentioned that he wanted to be George Washington, but it never went any further than that.
Well, the day after the reports were due, Max came home with a slip of paper saying that his report had been accepted for George Washington. Max did it all on his own and handed it in. WOW!
So...last night I (with help from Abby) came up with this costume for Max. He was pretty excited. The wig even has a pony tail in the back.

Well October has come and gone in a blink. We have been busy with family, birthdays, surgery, Dr. appointments, getting ready for Halloween and enjoying the beautiful fall weather.

Kloee was having trouble seeing and we found out she needed reading glasses.

Steve turned 35....early morning present opening...way too early for Daddy.

Abby had to have her tonsils out this month...she had a hard time with the recovery. But it will all be worth it to not have a sore throat ALL the time. These are some pretty flowers that Daddy's office sent her.

Grandma and Grandpa Russell came for a visit. Max pretty much was attached to Grandpa's hip the whole time. Being the only boy, he thinks that logically Grandpa was all his for the week. The girls managed to squeeze in a couple of bike rides with him.

Grandma couldn't help buying some cute things for the kids while she was here.

I turned 37 this year and the kids worked hard on a birthday cake for me. With some screaming and some tears they finally came to a compromise on how to frost it. Thanks kids...it was yummy!!

While my mom and dad were here we went to "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". It was up at the American Fork Amphitheater. It was a little chilly, but it was a lot of fun.

Katie starts her first dance class today. She has been so excited for this day to come. She has an hour dance class with 1/2 tap and 1/2 ballet.
I hope she is a little more graceful on the dance floor than she is playing in the yard...see exhibit a - newest injury...walked into the side of the mailbox and exhibit b - all the bruises on her little legs.
Whatever the result, she is going to have a wonderful time. She has so much enthusiasm!!

I am realizing that Katie, at such a young age, is becoming quite competitive. We love to play UNO in our house. Everyone wants to be the UNO CHAMPION. Katie will play as someones partner in the games. Her goal is to try and pick the person that is most likely to be the UNO CHAMPION. (she usually will pick Mom...lol). Her strategy in the game is to try and get her team mate to not pick up any more cards. She does not like to lose. When her team wins she jumps up on her chair and does her 4 year old little victory dance. And if she loses...not very happy. It should be interesting when she can play her own hand.

So last night we left Danny's birthday party. Steve and I were in seperate vehicles. Steve had Abby and Kloee and I had Katie and Max. I decided to go a different route home than Steve to see if it we could beat him home. Katie was so excited to be having a race. She was cheering me on as we were driving and as we were getting closer to home, I realized that Steve had probably made it home before us. Max was in the back of the car saying that we were "the losers". Katie was so angry and was getting very upset about Max announcing that we were "the losers". So Katie looks back at him and says "You think that's funny?? Well, it's not!!!!" I had to hold back the laughter, as this would have really got her going.

Seconds later we rounded the corner to our street and sure enough there was Steve's car in the driveway with Abby jumping up and down doing her 11 year old victory dance. (let me tell you, that didn't help matters out any) Katie was so angry and began to cry and had to take a few minutes to herself in the van before she could come in the house.

It makes me wonder...is this competitive spirit a good thing or not so good??

Since the older kids started school almost a month ago...Katie FINALLY gets to start preschool. She has been waiting and waiting. She was so excited to get ready and pick out her own clothes for school today. (she did pretty good I might add...considering what she usually chooses to wear ).
She is going to Tina's Tots Preschool. Starting with Abby, all the kids have gone to this preschool. She has been a wonderful teacher and all the kids have and still do just love her!

I have to say that I love music...all kinds...but I mostly listen to top 40 music on the radio. About 2 or 3 months ago, I was driving and listening and a song came on that I hadn't heard before. The beat of the music was catchey and I was excited to hear a "new" song. Then came the words...my jaw dropped and I immediately changed the station. I didn't need to listen to the whole song to know that I didn't like it. It was Katy Perry's debut song "I kissed a girl".
It made me feel sick to my stomach that there would be a song cirulating on the radio with those lyrics. It made me feel dissappointed and discouraged in some way.
So as the weeks went by, I heard this come on the radio again and again as its popularity continued to rise. I continued to turn the station or turn the radio off altogether. On occasion, I voiced my opinion about this song. Using the words "hate", "disgust", "repulsive", "UNBELIEVABLE".
Another thing that I love is the TODAY show on NBC. I watch and listen to it while I am getting ready in the morning. Well, I heard that on their Friday Concert Series, they were having the singer Katy Perry coming to perform. My first thought was "they WOULDN'T have her sing THAT song". Friday came and guess what??? They did!!! I was so dissappointed that I sat down and sent an email to the TODAY show. Now, I usually don't do these types of things and realize that we all have a choice and can choose to watch or listen, to stay or walk away. But I felt that I needed to let them know how I felt.
Now before I sent the email I thought, well maybe the song is not what I THOUGHT is was. I hadn't EVER listened to the whole song only hearing a few lines ever. So I felt like I needed to read the lyrics to make sure that I wasn't over reacting a bit about the song. Well, for those of you who haven't heard the lyrics....THEY WERE WORSE THAN I THOUGHT!!!! This pushed my desire to write the email even more. This is what I wrote:

I felt as though I needed to sit down and write this email, as a mother of 3 daughters and also as an avid watcher of the TODAY show.
As I was getting ready for the day and watching the TODAY show on Thursday morning, they announced the headliners for the Concert Series for Friday, August 29th. When Katy Perry was announced, I thought to my self , please do not have her sing the song "I kissed a girl". Any other song but that one. I gave the TODAY show the benefit of the doubt and thought, they won't have her sing "that" song on their show...they just wouldn't.
Well, I tuned in this morning, while getting ready for the day. The Concert Series was beginning and Katy Perry was up. They scanned the audience and there were hundreds, maybe even thousands of young, impressionable girls (some as young as 4 or 5). This made my stomach turn as they announced that she would be singing her top hit, I kissed a girl.
I immediately pressed mute on my television set, not wanting to hear the words being sung , and also that my 4 year old daughter was playing in the same room. I watched as the young girls in the audience danced and sung along to the words as the song was being sung by Katy Perry. The image of this saddened me and could not believe that this was being presented on one of my favorite morning news programs. I have watched controversial things presented on the TODAY show before and expect that from the news and interviews that you have on your program. My issue with the Concert Series that brings hundreds of children and youth to your plaza to listen to top music artists and then presents a song that I feel is controversial.
This song promotes experimentation. Everything about it is wrong. Who WANTS their child to experiment with this type of thing?? What is happening with the morals in our society that songs like this are okay. They sensor the word "hell" in a song, because they don't want to OFFEND anyone. So what about this song?? My goodness, Matt Lauer has daughters...does he let them listen to this song??
I just expected more from the TODAY show.

Now I usually don't do things like this but felt a type of responsibility to voice my opinion. I am not naive in my thinking that this type of thing isn't happening, but am surprised at what is being allowed or accepted in our society as OK.
This is my issue......

Abby and Kloee took Katie out today and got her all set up on the two wheeler (with training wheels, of course). She feels like she has just been inducted into this club that she has seen her older sisters participate in for years. She is so pleased with herself that she can ride around on a bike that is similar to her two older sisters. It was cute to see the girls teaching her how to

Things that bring me joy!

I love the sense of accomplishment after getting a pile of peaches done. Kloee didn't leave my side the whole time. We had alot of fun working together. Now on to the pears!

Kloee turns 10 today. She is very excited about all the fun things she gets to do as "the birthday girl". She opened up her presents this morning then Daddy is picking her up to take her to lunch (her choice of restaurant) and then she gets to have whatever she wants for supper and of course cheesecake for dessert. The first day of school came so early and quickly this year. The kids were excited about a new year. Abby - 6th grade, Kloee - 5th grade and Max - 2nd grade. We were all up and ready in record time this morning. It would be nice if all mornings would go like that. Steve drives them every morning and Katie was seeing them off.
So here we go again...another school year begins.

Daddy Daughter Camp Out '08

The ward daddy daughter camp out was this past Friday night. The girls were so excited for this annual event. They headed out to a camp ground just 5 minutes from our house. The weather was perfect and there was a great turn out.
All four of them slept in our little 3 man tent...can I say cozy?

Home from the camp out and you can see how the 3 man tent turned out....daddy didn't get much sleep.
I guess we need to upgrade our tent...the girls are getting bigger. The camp out was a great success and some wonderful memories made.

Olympic FEVER!

This had to be the most amazing race that I have ever seen...Michael Phelps going for his 7th GOLD and he wins by 1/100th of a second. This race had me up out of my chair, screaming and cheering at the TV. He is a phenomenal swimmer. He has me hooked..I am a fan. I needed a distraction from my week of reading and it looks like I found it.

Well, I spent the last week reading the whole four books in the Twilight Series. Whenever I had a spare minute I would have my nose in a book. I just finished the 4th and final book of the series last night. I have to say that I just love these books and was very please with how Stephenie Meyer ended the series.
I am ready to MOVE ON.... any suggestions for a good book to read would be greatly appreciated.

Russell Family Reunion 2008

Here are some pictures from our reunion up at Priest Lake, ID. It was a such a fun weekend. Lots of laughs, memories and tons of food. The place we stayed was amazing, to say the least. Way to go Sally and Chris! We spent a day on the lake and our nights eating and visiting. The kids had a blast with each other. Until 2010 in Utah...love you all!

Seattle visit

We stopped in to visit with Grandma Sisk. She lives in a absolutely beautiful rest home. The kids were excited to see her and I think it made Grandma happy to have us there.

$70 for a 90 second ride up to the top of the Space Needle in Seattle. Was well worth it!

We weren't sure we were going to go but after coming out of the Pacific Science Center and there was a clear blue sky with very little clouds...we just couldn't miss the opportunity. It was a beautiful view of Seattle and you could see for miles. From what I understand, that does not happen very often in Seattle with all the clouds.

We stopped off at the Pacific Science Center and spent most of the day there. It was alot of fun and had so many things to do. We watch an IMAX film on the eruption of Mount St. Helens. Steve lived near Seattle when it erupted...it was pretty amazing to watch.

A day in the CITY...

A statue of Angel Moroni that is in the Church History Museum. It used to be on the top of a LDS church in Washington D.C. The building was sold and they shipped the statue to Salt Lake City to put in the museum.

A replica of the same podium that is in the conference center. The original was build from a tree that grew in President Hinckley's yard.

We spent the day up in Salt Lake City...visiting the Church History Museum and touring Temple Square. The Church History Museum has a great I am a child of God exhibit. The kids had so much fun...lots of hands on things to do. We had such a wonderful time...truth be told, I think the favorite thing of the day was eating out at JB's Restaurant.

Today was a very exciting day....the cast finally came off! Max was very happy to have it off and the first thing he said was "can we go boating now?" The doctor said it healed up great and he will be is as good as new! Hopefully, but not likely, this is the last broken bone.

For 12 years (with the exception of the one year that we went to Canada for a family reunion) we have been going to the Freedom Festival Balloon Launch in Provo. We get up at 5 a.m. and drive down to see the launching of the balloons. It has become a wonderful tradition for our family. We then have a full day of the 4 "F's" .... Family, food, fun and FIREWORKS!!!

This is the Lehi Royalty. I am not sure I understand the whole reason behind beauty pageants. Every town in Utah County had their city royalty in the parade. If anyone knows why girls aspire for this....let me know.

Our 2nd trip out on the boat this year...the weather has finally got nice enough. We stayed out late and the kids had a blast. Max still has his cast on his arm, but he was able to have a good time still.

Max has the longest tongue....he has this amazing talent of being able to touch his nose with his tongue....he thinks it's cool.

Abby and Kloee have both had a great softball season. They play in different leagues so we are at the ball field or at practices 4-5 days a week.
Both their teams have made it into the finals and both are going to the State tournament in July.
We have been having so much fun and the girls have made so much progress this season.

Steve promised the girls that for any base hit that they make in a game he will take everyone for icecream after the game....we have gone for alot of icecream these past few weeks. They are doing so great!

Summer is finally here!

Summer is finally here! We had our first nice day of the summer break and the kids were soaking it in!

We all went up to my friend Tina's house and played on the slide for 6 hours. They had a blast!

We even found a way for Max to have some fun too.

Max learned how to ride his two wheeler....well, almost. His bike hit the curb and then his arm hit the curb. He has to wear the cast for 4 weeks. He is out for the rest of the season of Coach Pitch...(the season only started last Saturday).

The worse thing about it is that he is left handed and he broke his left arm...bummer!

Max got his own set of scriptures from Uncle Aaron and Auntie Denise. He wanted his own set so badly and traditionally we have gotten them for our kids when they turn eight and are baptized. He loves to read the scriptures and loves to read about the prophets. How can you say no to that enthusiasm? He was so happy. Thanks Uncle Aaron and Auntie Denise.

We went to Costco a couple of days ago and Max saw this bike. Well, since then all he has been talking about is that he wants the bike for his birthday.
Well, we had pretty much told him that he probably wasn't going to get the bike. So, this morning we blind folded him and surprised him with his birthday gift...a new bike!
Thing is, he doesn't know how to ride a two wheeler, and this bike did NOT come with training wheels.
Thank goodness for helmets and knee pads!

Pot of Gold?

We were driving home the other day and the rain had just stopped and the kids discovered this rainbow.

They started asking if we thought there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Then we started talking about being rainbow/pot of gold hunters...eventually the discussion turned to why there are rainbows, prisms, reflection of the sun.

We talked about it for the rest of the drive home...always great to have those teaching moments. Steve led most of the discussion...truth be told, I learned a few things myself.

The kids school did a dance festival where each grade did a different decade. They worked for weeks on these dances.
Abby's grade did the "roaring 20's" and did a flapper dance.
Kloee's grade did the "rockin' 80's" (my personal favorite) and did Thriller by Michael Jackson...I almost jumped up there and started to dance. I restrained myself, as I am sure Kloee would have been mortified! Maybe not though, I think I still have that dance memorized....there are some things you just never forget.
Max's grade did the 50's and did their dance to "Oh, Mickey your so fine" -not sure if that is the title and if I do remember correctly, that wasn't really a 50's song..oh well, that is what they danced to. It was a great afternoon and alot of fun to watch.

We had a wonderful turnout for our event. Thank you to all of our friends and family that came. There was tons of yummy food and we had "Puddles the Clown" there to paint faces. She did a fabulous job.

We went away on a 3 day cruise to Mexico... we had so much fun and relaxing! The food was AMAZING! We ate way too much but we enjoyed ourselves.

Max is playing his new Spiderman game that teaches Spiderman moves. Danny just loves to play with Max. He watches his every move whether it be Spiderman or fighting with their light sabers. I am sure this what having a little brother would be like....too bad, this is all your gettin'.

Katie and I went to the school the other day to drop something off for Abby. While we were there and walking through the hall, we bumped into Max. We talked to him for a second and he gave Katie and I a hug good bye. As we were walking away, Katie looked at me, kind of shaking, her head and said "I sure do love that boy". She is always good for a laugh! Sometimes I think she is 3 going on 25...she says the funniest things.

Steve gave the kids their blessings before school started this year. In Max's blessing, he said for Max to love his sisters and to take care of them. The next morning Max was not being very nice to Katie and Katie turned to him with sad eyes and said " Daddy said you are supposed to love me." It's always amazing what kids remember.

We had been waiting for quite a while to have all the kids in the same school. They are all going to Odyssey Academy Charter School. Dad gets to drive them every morning on his way to work. Mom gets to pick them up. They are enjoying all being together.

Visit to Temple Square

We decided at the last minute on a Saturday afternoon to take a quick trip up to Salt Lake to Temple Square. It was a gorgeous day and we had a wonderful time. It was a great opportunity to talk to the kids about the temple. We were able to go to the Joseph Smith movie at the Legacy theater. It was a great afternoon. An opportunity that we should take more often.

Daddy Daugher Camp Out

The ward planned a Daddy Daughter camp out. The girls were so excited for this weekend to come. They had a blast. What little girl doesn't like to spend time with their daddy? They went up to the mountains above Heber, Utah. They hiked, roasted marshmellows and snuggled up with Daddy to keep warm. Fun memories made.

Kloee had a game tonight (June 20th). They came back from being 3 points behind to win it in the last inning 4-3. They play again tomorrow in the finals. If they win this game they go to the State tournament. We are all so excited.

His last day of school he had a little graduation ceremony to say farewell to kindergarten. He was sent on the bus that morning with his suit and tie on. We showed up for the ceremony an hour later, no jacket, no tie and wood chips from the playground hanging from his pants. He was placed front and center for the graduation and looked GREAT!! Congratulations on your graduation!! Super job!

The new found love around our house are the WEBKINZ . Grandma and Grandpa Russell have provided Max with his second Webkinz. He has the black bear and now the polar bear. He was so excited to receive it. He named him Snowy. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa. Grandma and Grandpa Jardine gave Max his 3rd Webkinz...a Panda Bear named Plunge. They also have him $10 and he went right to the store and bought himself, what else, but a 4th Webkinz..a pug dog. He named him Captain Dog Beard. (Not sure where that one came from?)

Kloee is on a girls softball team this year. She is loving it and is learning alot! Her team is the Astros and she is #8. She is really busy with games twice a week and practice twice a week. That makes Mom and Dad busy as well, but we are all having fun. Her team is 7-2. They have a great chance at going to the State tournament in July. GO ASTROS!!!!
